25 plates of sushi!! I think that's a new family record. The kids loved being able to pick the plates they wanted to try. The parents loved that the portions were "trial size" so if it wasn't a kid fave nothing was wasted. This will definitely be a regular stop when we are in Daytona!

This is going to be a short review, because I'm going to get straight to the point. Sapporo has some of the best sushi I've ever eaten. I sat at the sushi river with a friend last week and tried at least 8 different rolls with him. We also got miso soup, some of the best seaweed salad I have ever eaten, and a few hot dishes as well that were fantastic. My meal was chicken udon, and his was this meal that he raves about all of the time that he used to eat in Japan and everytime we go to a new sushi place he looks for it and this is the first time he's enjoyed in thoroughly. He never usually even finishes his meals, and he scarfed this down in five minutes- if this. I highly recommend going to Sapporo at least once. For atmosphere, to be completely honest; this place is in Daytona Beach just a few blocks from the beach. Don't expect much for looks when everyone is coming in mucking up the floors with sand and in their bikinis. Prices are awesome. We thought we were going to spend at least $100, and our bill was half of that. The servers are friendly and helpful, and all in all for going there on Spring Break the clientele wasn't too bad either.

I can't speak to the sushi, but my wife and I picked up a to-go order from the hibachi grill that was very enjoyable. Filet was excellent (although not rare as we requested). Shrimp were very good. Not sure what happened with the vegetables. We both ordered extra vegetables (which we paid for) and mostly what we received was a lot of onions and bean sprouts. I guess those are vegetables. Sapporo is a great place for a to-go order of hibachi when you get the craving. Maybe one day I will brave the sushi river.

Hibachi cook was drinking prior to and during food preparation. Sprayed hot oil on my shirt and arm. Almost caught us on fire! Food was so-so. I wouldn't go there again! I had to give it a star, but honestly, I wouldn't give it even one.

we stopped by there on our last stay at Daytona Beach and I can say for sure that we won't bother going back next time. I'm sure there has to be a better Sushi place in the area. The service was decent and the prices were good but none of that matters when the sushi itself is not very good. We sampled three different plates, cancun roll, kobe roll and sweet yummy roll, and the cancun roll was the only decent one of the bunch and even that wasn't that great. I can't comment on the food or service on the hibachi side of things but I wouldn't go there for the sushi.

We enjoyed our experience at Sapporo. The food was excellent and well prepared and the chef was entertaining but not flashy or interruptive. He was very quick with his cooking but very thorough as well. The waitress was kind of in and out a lot but very attentive, I never had to ask for a refill, she would always just take my almost empty glass and bring me a fresh drink. The only downside I found was that we were the first to be seated at our hibachi table and that meant we waited a little bit longer for our cook to come to the table. But that can be expected at most hibachi steakhouses because they want to maximize seating. Another negative was the half order of sushi was advertised as having 3-4 pieces, which we thought was odd because we thought they would usually put an exact amount on the menu, but I guess it was up to the sushi chef to decide how many pieces. Overall it was a good experience and I would eat here again for sure. The prices were reasonable for that type restaurant and the food was good and fresh. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a reasonable Japanese steakhouse.

Small portion sizes, but the prices are steep! Rice is cheap people. Increase the portions. My waitress Carley was amazing!

I've had 3 great hibachi meals here. Have tried shrimp, steak, chicken and veggies. Portions are massive. I thought the food and flavors were awesome. WAY better than any meal at Kobe I've ever had and wayyy less expensive. The only bad part is the interior. Very crumby hole in the wall. But the food was great

We go here every time we visit Daytona and this trip we went twice! No idea why they do not advertise the floating sushi boats on their website as this is even more fun for us than the grill side. Also, if you go when they first open at 5pm, they have a lot more $1 sushi choices. We assume these are leftover from lunch, but did not confirm this. They may just be made for a happy hour pricing, also not advertised. They have very cheap drinks and have desserts both floating by and on the menu. We liked everything we tried, from the seaweed salad to the dragon eye tempura sushi. Service is always friendly, too. We wish we had something like this in Denver!

Good sushi?? It is THE best sushi I've ever had. I am a sushi fan, have tried sushi from all over the world and this is my favorite place. I have been going for the last 3-4 years and live in Orlando and still go there for sushi. The waitress already know me, specially Anna, they are so kind to me and my friends. I recommend Tom Cruise roll, miso soup and fried rice WITH shrimp sauce. This shrimp sauce is amazing!!!!

Chef Special Tonkotsu Ramen... Yum :) Great price $12.00. I've also had their normal Tonkotsu ramen, and it is very tasty. I asked to have a steamed egg on top, and no problem at all. Pleasant waiter, good food.

Let me begin by saying, that I have been going to Sapporo for years. I have been very patient with them because the prices are so reasonable, however every time I go back, it gets worse and worse. Sure, the little river for the sushi is cute, but they used to have a system of flipping colored chips on the boats to denote how fresh things were. They dont have this anymore. The service is pretty horrible. The servers are slow and inefficient in general. This is the kind of place you have to wait ten minutes to get your drink. The bartender was wonderful to a group of friends and I on a birthday, and if it was not for him, our drinks would have taken a very long time, but he delivered them himself, which was very nice. Oh, and the last two times I have been to Sapporo, I have gotten food poisoning. I have no allergies, so it was not a case of cross contamination. Why I went back after the first time, is beyond me. I even ordered all cooked sushi rolls, and still paid for it for two days. Not worth it. Any sushi place in town is better.

This place used to be dirty, but I gave it another shot this week as I was told it is under new management. Very clean and the food was great! I'm so glad it changed because it is close to where I live and in a neighborhood I like to support! Cheapest sushi in town!

    (3)
  • Nicole F.

My girlfriend and I took our kids here for her sons birthday. Not too impressed with the place AT ALL!!! The food was blah and not very clean. They should make the effort to dust! Yuck! I wouldn't go back again

we always go here when we're in daytona. ry likes dinner with a show... i loved that they let me have 2 shrimp sauces and one ginger one... i love the shrimp sauce! def get the shrimp and steak... best food for the money... ry's mom got the shrimp and lobster and i feel like it lacked sufficient protein, if you catch me drift... plus the lobster was warm-water and not cold... i just prefer a cold-water lobster, what can i say? the dragon rolls were delish, well worth 10 bucks. the tuna tataki was so-so, saved only by the shrimp sauce... what can i say? the sauces outback has for their seared tuna spoiled me. also, they switched my ginger ale for a shirley temple with no hesitation (i spotted one at the table across from ours and became jealous).

Reasonable (as far as taste and cost) sushi and hibachi. Ate here several times while in town for a week for a conference in Jan 2010 and tried several different items. Shrimp and steak hibachi is probably the best. Most of the waitresses seem to be from Russia for some reason. The environment is so-so. A lot of sushi places have a sort of superclean , ultramodern feel and look, perhaps because that sort of interior design and level of cleanliness is what they feel their target "yuppie" market is looking for ; definitely not the case with this one.. It did not seem dirty to me, but did not feel "superclean" either.. Kind of in between.. And the furniture and decor is nothing special. The sushi bar is an elliptical river on which sushi floats around on little wooden boats, from which you can grab what you want.

    (3)
  • Kim W.

A great place to catch lunch. You can eat in or take out. I usually go grab some sushi from the floating sushi boats. Grab what you want as it passes by. You can also request that they make something for you, since sometimes the choices that float by are limited. You can also eat some food at the hot tables with knife wielding guys telling the same jokes you hear at each teppanyaki table you have been to. But, it is good and everyone loves a a flaming onion.

  • Megan H.

This place is pretty run down but there is a sushi bar on the left that has a lazy river where the sushi floats past you on a boat. You pick what you want and pay based on the color of the plates you've stacked up. The freshness is questionable... you never know just how long they've been floating by... I stuck mainly with the cooked sushi rolls and they were pretty tasty. This was a fun concept and I really wish we would get something like this in Orlando. I would probably go back to this place while visiting Daytona.

We sat the the sushi bar. I love how the sushi floating in the water. We started off with the mango wine, it tsted like mango liquor mixed with a white wine but pretty interesting. Then we got some edamame n baby octopus. It was good but kinda small. The sushi from the boat was pretty small portion too but it fit with the price. It give me a chance to try most of rolls. Also, the conch salad. It was delicious. I love it. We even got one for Togo! Then we order some big rolls. I think it was spicy tuna, Caribbean, spicy conch And spider. The spicy rolls and spider was pretty good. Tuna was ok, not too fresh. Conch was good. Crab was small. I count Tatars it that much. And then the Caribbean, it was awesome! Love it. It has a fun taste to it. I got one Togo too. The deserts we got it from the boat. Cheese came was good but the cream puffs wasn't cold so I was disappointed. The service was alright. The server could have smile a little bit more. The japanese sushi guy was so cute! Just wanted to pinch him xp. The place need to repaint and redecoration but other wise i love the concept of the boat. Overall, I would want to come back and eat there again!! Love this place. If u ever come to daytona, have to try this place.

This is a generous five stars. I'd give it four and a half if that was possible. But a generous five stars. I fell in love with hibachi at Sopporo's. Cooks are always very entertaining and the whole experience is very fun and relaxing. I'm overdue for another trip to a hibachi steak house. If you're in Daytona, this is a good place to stop in.

  • James C.

In these places it always depends on the chef at your table. some are great showmen and some are good chefs. Rarely do you get both. The one we had last Saturday tended to over-sear the veggies and rice. The miso soup was warm not hot and a bit salty. My meal of scallops were done okay but there was a lack of seasoning. My wife said her steak was good.

    (3)
  • Carolyn W.

Ok but not wonderful. Presentation was nice but sushi was not the freshest.

I'd go back for sure, I really only rate as I will or won't be back and if it stinks I will tell the world. We all work to hard for our money to waste it on lousy food and or service.

I have been frequenting this place for years, then last week my wife, myself and a few friends went for dinner. I left a $10 tip which seemed reasonable. Boy was I wrong! As I was walking out the door, I heard a "PSSSST!, PSSST!" then felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and it was our Russian waitress Nadia. She then said "Excuse me, but you didn't leave a big enough tip." To be honest, her service was rather poor in the first place that night and she had the nerve to ask for a "bigger tip"?

  • Jim B.

One of the best sushi places I've ever Had the pleasure of dining. My wife and I were very full. we also had a half carafe of Sake and the bill was only $48. The sushi floats around on top of boats going right past you need just pick it up as you find something that you want to eat. A must go when you're in Daytona Beach. Thank you Liz from Maui nix for recommending this place.

  • Impact F.

Mina and her family make us feel like royalty every time we come in! Great atmosphere! We always sit at the floating bar and have a ton of choices! Even the double chocolate cake is awesome! If you are looking for a great place to go - look no further!

    (5)
  • Kelly C.

It was Okay for me, I don't eat rice, so I usually get double vegetables, but at this hibachi place, they piled onions on my plate mostly, and it took forever to get the other vegetable with my onions. Also the waitress didn't speak very good English and she could not get our orders right. And it was extremely hard to understand her. Prices were good compared to other Hibachi restaurants. I will probably give them another try since they are down the street from my home.

    (3)
  • Stephanie B.

Absolutely fantastic! So glad I found on Yelp! I've been coming to the area 20+ years and I wish I would have known about this place sooner! Food wasn't as salty as most hibachi places I've been to and you get a better variety with your meal. And as for the sushi it was extremely reasonable, light and flavorful. Whole experience was excellent!

    (5)
  • Raj G.

Been there many years ago. Definitely not impressed. Gave it a shot this past year in 09 and still not impressed. I ordered the hibachi chicken. I didn't expect to get mix dark and white meat. If I am being totally honest there was 90% dark meat. More like scraps. The atmosphere feels really old inside. Lighting very dim and the seating is elbow to elbow with the person next to you. Portions are very small for the price you pay. The taste is very average.

    (3)
  • Stephen N.

The worst hibachi Japanese food I've ever ordered. We had take out and when we got our food home and opened up the boxes we were severely disappointed. The shrimp was flavorless previously frozen, and horribly overcooked, the chicken looked strange and brown and the rice was crunchy in spots and the veggies looked and tasted out of a can. The egg rolls weren't awful. The restaurant's interior was dated and ugly, I wouldn't ever visit here again and would just drive the extra couple miles to get some really good Japanese food.

    (1)
  • John C.

This was the only place for hibachi in the area years ago. Now it is one of several. Still the best place when you are down by the beach. The floating sushi conveyor belt is kid friendly. You can also get special orders. The hibachi is the same as you have seen at others in your life. The neighborhood is also great to walk around and enjoy in the day or night.

    (5)
  • Shane M.

A very mixed experience. We came in late on a Saturday, but the restaurant seemed very dirty. I almost slipped on the greasy floor walking to our seat. Good: Maybe the best sushi I've had in Daytona. Bad: My friend ordered hibachi from the kitchen. It looked like they scraped leftovers onto a plate. It did not look or taste like it was recently cooked. Usually sushi is the most difficult thing to get right, but it looks like sushi is the only thing they pay attention to.

  • Victoria C.

Dirtiest restaurant I have ever seen. The food on the "river" I couldn't even keep looking at. I picked up a seaweed salad and it was soggy, DISCOLORED AND WARM. I nearly gagged and could eat past bite one. There was tons of old food splattered all over the walls and ceiling, what looked like holes from rats and a ROACH CRAWLED ON THE MOLD COVERED SUSHI BAR. Not to mention the sushi chief was using the same, uncleaned knife for fish, poultry, beef and veggies while prepping food. The service was just sad. I don't think they hire anyone with experience because they have to give half of their tips to the sushi chief. I will never go back. Do not go there if you are allergic to mold, roaches, rats or are ceceptable to ecoli.

Once again, this place doesn't cease to amaze me. Our waitress, Carley should immediately quit her job! Our drink order was fulfilled by Patricia who told us after dropping them off that she was not our waitress.. Okay, well then who is? Twenty minutes later after Patricia walked by us, I don't know, fifteen times, I flagged her down and asked her if she could ask our "waitress" to come by. Another ten minutes passed before Carley finally arrived to our table. She took our order, brought our soup and salad, and like a phantom - she disappeared. POOF! She was gone. Thirty minutes later, one of the two sushi chefs delivered our dinners to us. When we were ready to leave he provided us with a box and all Carley provided was our bill. I would highly recommend that if you've been selected to sit at one of her tables, move right away, you'll thank me later.

The sushi boat was pretty cool! A few appetizing varieties to choose from. I've walked past this place many times going to/from the nearby bars and finally decided to give it a try. They weren't very busy and the service was great. The drinks were very good and the food was quite delicious. The ambiance was nice and quiet, great for talking. I would go back.

Been coming here for years. My son used to love it when he was little. There are two side of the restaurant. Hibachi side and sushi side. The sushi side you can sit on the individual tables or by the sushi bar. Sushi bar is operated by sushi on the boat floating on the water going around like "kaiten sushi" in Japan. The prices different are by the color of the plates range from $1-$5. You can also ordered from sushi menu and regular menu that has regular Japanese food like Japanese curry, ramen, udon etc.... The place is pretty old so its not as clean. I think the place is own by a Japanese. Sushi isn't the best maybe that's why its affordable. Service isn't the best either. Most of the time there aren't enough of them. Have to wait a long time for them to come by. Its a good place if you are not picky with quality of the food and want a quick bite. Little kids love the little boats floating around. That will keep them entertain.

We were in Daytona this weekend for the NASCAR, Coke 400 race and knew we had to eat at our favorite sushi restaurant in Daytona. First of all let me start by saying that please don't judge this restaurant by the outside. It's definitely a bit run down outside and could really use a good cleaning and decorating. I will say that we were a bit disappointed this visit. We sat at the sushi bar which we always find pretty awesome because it has the floating boats that go around with fresh made sushi on them (you pay by the color of the plate). They were not very busy but the assortment of sushi on the boats was really lacking. I personally order my sushi to order because I'm definitely very selective on what I'll eat but my husband likes it all and loves the fact that he can help himself immediately. I also order the shrimp tempura but was very disappointed on the size of the shrimp and truly it was quite soggy. The dip for the shrimp was also lacking flavor which normally is delicious. The spicy mayo was also very bland this time. Everything seemed lacking taste wise on this trip to Sapporo. As always the wait staff were friendly and attentive. I can't remember our waiters name but he was from Casselberry and very friendly! Oh and I can't forget the saki....the saki here is great and you can even order by the carafe or 1/2 carafe. We do the carafe at $17.00, truly worth the money!

Very bad service and the sushi was awful. Took almost 30 minutes just to get a drink and over an hour to get the food. Just a bad experience all together and would not recommend it!

  • Ellie P.

As a former full time server, I'm well acquainted with a night in the weeds. Sometimes the place is full, your bartender is slammed, the kitchen is behind, and guests are needy. It happens. But as far as I know, that was not the case tonight. It is a Saturday, and I'm always willing to give a server the benefit of the doubt, but it's off season and this was the slowest and most incompetent service I've ever witnessed. You couldn't script this. The food really was pretty good, we got a large sampling of sushi that was all well executed. But you'd think, given that we wrote down our own orders, the whole process would be pretty simple, and our server would have some idea of what the sushi all looks like. We're all pretty mystified. Food is not worth the slow service.

Great sushi in Daytona! We come here every time we are in town! It's a really fun lunch place to sit at the sushi bar and get plates of sushi off the boats floating by! If you want to introduce someone to sushi this is a fun place to bring them. They even have rolls with chicken!

    (5)
  • Mike N.

Excellent! We sampled about $100 worth of sashimi/sushi and enjoyed meals at the steak table. My party of 7 took up the whole table and everyone appeared to really enjoy their meal. The cook did a great job entertaining us in a very non-flashy way. We still use one of his lines, "why noottt..." You had to be there ;-) I had the yellow tail sashimi appetizer (8 pieces and awesome) and the grilled shrimp hibachi dinner (perfect as always). Soup and salad included and was typical for a Japanese Steak House. We also enjoyed their very large bottles of sake! When we visit my mother we usually come here for dinner at least once every couple years. They even held our to go boxes while we walk off dinner. We pick them up on our way back to the car. I really like this place.

  • Omaira D.

I guess if you have nothing to compare it to, it's a good place. Their meals include a salad with choice of dressing, soup, shrimp appetizer (2 shrimp), fried rice, veggies and the meal of choice. The place is oooolllldddd and bleak. The fried rice looks like it's made with canned veggies that include corn and lima beans and NO EGG (I've eaten a lot of fried rice, never with corn and lima beans). I really like egg in my fried rice :( The fish is frozen tilapia lsimilar to those in plastic bags at walmart. The white sauce, to me, tasted like thousand island dressing. There were no noodles. The replacement for noodles was bean sprouts. I gave them 2 stars because, while I've had WAY better, it was edible. Tons of awards all over... yeah I don't know how that happened.

My husband and I love this place and have been going there every time we go to Daytona Beach. They have two sides, the hibachi and Sushi side . We always go to the sushi side. They have a very unique area with sushi boats that float in water and you can pick from different small plates with some pieces of sushi, sashimi or dessert. Plates are very reasonable and are color coded . They have 4 different prices . Our friends came along this time around and also loved it. You can order off the menu which they did . We always eat off the boats which are kept filled and if we want something different you can ask the sushi guy behind the counter and he will quickly make a plate for you. Service was quick, sushi is always very fresh and prices are reasonable. I have been to a similAr place in San Francisco and we eat sushi all the time in Orlando and I can tell you that it's hard to beat the freshness and prices here . We will keep coming back!

Sushi river was excellent. The "Cancun Roll" with the teriyaki and hibachi pink sauce for dipping was amazing. What a genius combination. I love this place.

Visited on 1/17/15 with a party of 3 and I we all left disappointed to say the least. I eat Japanese food including hibachi and sushi/ sashimi at least once a month and this place ranks towards the bottom of all the places that I have tried. The saving grace for this place was their sushi. We had the California roll, Kentucky roll and the shrimp tempura roll and they were all pretty good. I had the teriyaki shrimp and chicken which was okay and that is where the okay part of this visit ended. My meal came in a binto box and one of the compartments contained a plain fried chicken wing, a slice of orange, a half a boiled potato and a raw carrot. What is that about? The vegetables were not the typical veggies from a Japanese steakhouse. It was mostly onions and cabbage and also contained what appeared to be collard greens. It also came with steamed rice but we weren't asked if we wanted steamed or fried rice. Typically hibachi food comes with fried rice. Also you have the choice of soup or salad. Most places give you both with a $18 meal. Service was okay even though I think our server was covering about twenty tables by herself. Probably wouldn't go back to this particular Japanese place, there are much better places for the money.

My favorite sushi shop in Daytona Beach Florida! There is a river if sushi and it's all good. The best time is when they first open... Alos about an hour before they close all the sushi goes on sale for $1!

  • Felicia C.

We had the hibachi here and it was quite good. The soup was different than the usual miso soup I'm accustomed to having at Japanese places. I'm not sure what the base was. The ginger dressing for the salad was great. My scallops were well-cooked and the onions and zucchini were very enjoyable. We received a ton of fried rice, way more than any of us could eat. If i hadn't been so spoiled by the amazing food at Sakura (Northeast Philly) over the last 20 years, I'd be really raving about Sapporo. I will say that the chef had me laughing a lot at his crazy antics and jokes. It was an enjoyable night.

Service was good! And our waiter was polite. But sushi was terrible, they wAs looks weird.. Like chef took last pieces of everything he had and put it together:) rice was too warm. Place was pretty dirty. Might be cuz it was finish of work day.

The place does not scream 'come right in', however, do not be fooled by its unassuming look. The food is cheap and quantity is aplenty, while quality is solid. My family came here after my brother's graduation from Embry-Riddle. The lunch crowd was non-existent, thus allowing our group of fifteen to receive prompt and attentive service. Looking at the menu, I was chocked on how cheap the place was for steak and scallops. I had the most expensive meal and it was $13. It made me wonder what was I going to receive for a meal. One scallop and two ounces of steak? When everything was finished, I had a half dozen pieces of scallops and a good size piece of steak. Also, it came with a carbohydrate medley of noodles, fried rice, and potatoes. It was carbohydrate overload. Dr. Atkins would be horrified at this meal. The food on my plate resembled a mountain. It soared from my plate and made me realize I was not going to finish this food today or tomorrow. I had meals for three days for those wondering at home. My two qualms about Sapporo was the dreary inside and the chef murdered my scallops. The chef should be charged with six degrees of murder for murdering my scallops. He probably murdered them because he worked in such a dreary setting. The motives still remain unclear. Moving on from my digression, For value, Sapporo is certainly worth the visit.

Probably one of the place in Daytona Beach that you can get something close to Japanese food. Taste wise, the food is not bad. They have ample selection of people who are first-timer for Japanese food. The only thing I hate is the service. We went there twice and the waiters will take a loooooonggg time to serve you. I spent 2 hours in the restaurant and spending more than 40 minutes to wait them to serve you. Better avoid it if you are in a rush..

  • Bill P.

Had dinner with three friends. The service was great. Very efficient and friendly. The food was mediocre at best. I have eaten at many other Japanese Steak houses and all were much better. The food had little flavor. The fried rice looked like it had come out of a pre made bag. The ginger sauce was weak. Some of the chicken was not thoroughly cooked. The filet I had was good. All of us ended up in the bathroom with stomach problems within an hour of eating.
